History



Mike Young is a composer, instrumentalist and vocalist based in New York City. He has worked in many genres, including rock, folk, electronic and classical. He has composed for instrumental combinations including full orchestra, chamber orchestra, wind and brass ensembles, marimba and cello, harp and strings, choir and solo vocal. His underscores can be heard on television series such as Dual Survival, Pawn Stars, Wahlburgers and Real Housewives of Atlanta. He has composed music for commercials for Time Warner, Roadrunner, multiple software startup companies, and industry trade shows.


Mike started his career playing rock and folk, both as an individual solo artist and with bands, in New York City clubs, before branching out into electronic and modern classical composition. He attended UCLA music school, and has extensive training in music theory and music history. Mike plays piano, keyboards, guitar, bass, sings tenor in a choir, and is a skilled midi programmer, producer and arranger. His recordings of original songs include the full length album Searching For Zero and the single “Far From You”.


Mike’s television cues and underscores are currently featured on over 100 shows on networks such as A&E, Discovery Channel, Amazon Prime Video, Bravo, History Channel, The Learning Channel, and National Geographic Channel. His recordings can also be heard on YouTube, Amazon Music, Spotify, Hulu, and Playstation Video.


Mike is currently a student at The Juilliard School’s evening division, pursuing a Certificate in Composition. At Juilliard his compositions have been performed by numerous different instrumental combinations. His musical ambitions have even taken him to compose for musical theatre. To date he has composed two musical theatre works: Paleolithic is a tale of an ancient civilization visited by aliens, and The Qubots is a futuristic drama about a group of robots with consciousness.
